Morning Sounds

Before going to bed the first night here, Aunty Sherry told Sophia to expect to hear lots of different sounds at night and in the early morning, as she goes to sleep under her mosquito net (Sophia’s has pretty little flowers, from when her cousin Amelia slept in the little bed, so we call it the “princess net”). Here’s some of what we have heard:
  • Our (2) dogs bark every time any car approaches (behind a gate). The little dog barks the loudest. They also bark when the wind blows.
  • Nine cats in the back of the house;
  • Various birds;
  • Chickens;
  • Rooster;
  • Bats – sometimes loud and moaning;
  • Rats - though not so many;
  • Monkeys;
  • Pigs from outside the gate;
  • Discotheque down the street (the live music on Saturday night felt like it was coming from down the hall); and
  • Call to prayer from the mosque down the street.

Hello Homa, It is so much fun to read "At Home in The World", especially now that you have arrived in The Gambia. You are doing a wonderful job so far painting pictures with your words...Keep them coming!

HiHoma,

I love the name of your blog, At Home in the World. Your descriptions of entry into life there remind me of our first few days or weeks in Bolivia. Though we didn't see an Iranian airplane. However, now that Iran is buddy-buddy with Hugo Chavez and Bolivia's president, Evo Morales, maybe we will start to see them here too!

Reading your blog is great. Keep up the good work.
